Mel BochnerAmerican, 1940 - 2025

Mel Bochner (1940–2025) was a central figure and pioneer in the development of Conceptual Art, graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in 1962. His groundbreaking 1966 exhibition, Working Drawings And Other Visible Things On Paper Not Necessarily Meant To Be Viewed As Art, is cited as one of the first conceptual art exhibitions. Bochner's practice is defined by his use of language, numbers, and serial systems, notably in his "Thesaurus Paintings" and "Measurement" installations that probe the conventions of painting and communication.
