Douglas Cooper (born 1946) is an American artist who focuses on large panoramic murals of cities in the USA and abroad. He is known for his 120-foot long mural which is now a permanent installation at the Senator John Heinz Regional History Center in Pittsburgh that gained acclaim throughout the city with a featuring documentary on WQED TV.Cooper's projects are characterized by combining topography, history, and memory, often by collaborating with local residents to incorporate their stories and drawings into the final work. Cooper is a professor of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University, and has authored two books on drawing: Steel Shadows (University of Pittsburgh) and Drawing and Perceiving (Wiley).
